Opinions: Robin Hobb's Farseer World/Fiction

Well, I'm on book three of the Liveship Traders series.

Overall, I like the series. Some of the material is a little too easy to catch though in terms of plot development. One thing I don't like is that so many of the characters are introduced, at least in the Liveship series, as so whinny, that I really can't bring myself to care about them, even as they continue to evolve as characters. Her brining other, younger people in more frequently, is a nice touch here.

One thing I liked was how people from the Six Duchies were touched on and had a few apperances here, but weren't very well known. Greatly shows the effect distance has on a low magic world.

Looking forward to the last series. It'll be interesting to see young Fitz again after not seeing him here.

A friend of mine bought the Assassin series for me for Christmas, but I didn't get a chance to read them until I bummed out my knee last week. I tore through the first two books (ask my wife; I've barely done anything with my free time other than have my nose buried in them :) ), and am slowing down with the third book now that I'm back at work. I (obviously) really enjoyed the first two, but couldn't really say why right now; the characters are so intriguing that I want to know what comes next, I guess. I'm about 1/3 of the way through QUEST, and I just picked up the first Ship book so I have that ready to go when I'm done.

The magic is subtle the characters are likeable and despicable as appropriate, and the choices they make have real consequences.

Well, I enjoyed the Assassin's Trilogy so much, and liked the new series (although not as much), that I joined the Science Fiction book Club to get the Fool's Trilogy as part of my introduction package (although I also picked up the latest Raymond Feist books.)

Well, I was in Borders the other day. Still waiting for my order to be deleiver so I started reading the first book in the Tawny Man series.

Only read the first two chapters but it looks like the Wit magic is about to play another huge part in the series. So far it's pretty good but I don't have a lot of expectations yet. I do like the characters of the Farseer trilogy better than those of the Liveship series though so I suspect I'll enjoy this one more.
