Oppression vs. Ambition

Whiron scoffs, but in a jovial manner, because Jalakaag actually is his friend. “I cannot see any god dropping a piece of mountain out here on whimsy; but then again, I know nothing of the gods. Maybe it is only a coincidence; but at this point, it gives us something to see. We should keep our distance, first, and walk around it to see what we can see. No telling what this thing might attract.”

Taking in the entirety of the view from the distance, it is obvious that the rock has created a significant micro environment. There are quite a few more flying birds in view than normal, including songbirds flitting about the structure and a pair of raptors high overhead. Raptors and carrion birds are very rarely seen over the marsh because any fallen animal is rather quickly devoured by the abundance of crabs. It is highly likely that the shade provided by the rock, as the Daylight moves through its course, attracts more terrestrial creatures into the possibility of cooling from burning heat.

About the only thing that the displaced rock does not change is the course of the Daylight. The vegetation is different, the sounds are different, and the smells are different. Approaching from the northeast, larger cane is seen to grow from the east face around to the south, as it is protected from the afternoon light, which is hotter. A path, like a game trail through the smaller grass, is evident in the cluster of cane. Moving across the north to the west, it appears that the raptors overhead have a nesting site on an inaccessible ledge of the rock. Though welcome crabs still wander through the mud, there are no snails, and it is highly likely that the movements of the tides do not push salt this far into the marsh. The water is more fresh but still not exactly potable.

Keeping a distance so as to not attract attention from any denizen that might occupy the surroundings of the rock, the two are only able to make their way to the west side before needing to make camp for the night. Fortunately the small crabs that dominate the landscape are only active during the day so that sleeping on the ground becomes possible. None of the mud grubbers back in Asylim ever even consider that fact.
