Pathfinder 1E Oracle's Crystal Sight question?

One of my group is playing an Oracle. He has Crystal Sight:

Crystal Sight (Ex): You can see through stone, earth, or sand as easily as if it were transparent crystal. Your gaze can penetrate a number of feet equal to your oracle level, or 1/12th this thickness of metal. You can use this ability a number of rounds per day equal to your oracle level, but these rounds do not need to be consecutive

In our last session, he attempted to use this. But...he attempted to use it on a wall that was a long distance from him. I reasoned that the depth it goes should start from him standing next to the target.

So does Crystal Sight allow him to see X feet through stone, even if the stone is say, 500 yards off? From the wording, I couldn't really tell.

Thanks for any input.

By RAW (Rules As Written), yes. It is never mentioned that he need to be right next to it. He just see through X amount of stone or metal.

Of course, 500 yards away looking through some crystal, he probably won't see a lot of details.

I would say this, yes.

As an aside, there is a cleric subdomain for the Travel domain (Exploration) that lets you do something similar but specifically calls you out on having to touch the surface.

Apologies - I should have put a /sarcasm in front of that statement. :)

Okay, is there a chart somewhere in Pathfinder that shows what can be seen a distances? I tried to google this and all the returns were on what the human eye can see as far as light (candles were mentioned over and over) was concerned.

Something that would show what could be seen at 50 feet, 100 feet, 150 feet, etc,...

Seems like a lot of bother but I don't want to have the session bogged down by this and I *know* that the player will do it over and over and over... :)

PS He's a Half-Orc if that makes any difference.
