Orcish Werebears

Remember infected Were's only undergo the alignment change temporarily when forced into their wereform, they only become permanently of the Were alignment when they voluntarily change shape to the Were form.

Come to that what about werebears makes them LG ? In 2e they were chaotic good and I've never heard a reason for the change (unlike drow (who demonstrate superficial lawful behaviour), halflings (get away from the hobbit image), orcs (orc barbarian = ragey goodness)).

According to the MM everytime a Lycanthrope changes back he has to make a Will save (DC15+ number of times hes changed) to avoid taking on the alignment of the Weretype permanatly in all forms as well the Voluntary change rule.

WErebears where CG? That would certainly change them a lot, however the life of a Bear is not that chaotic (unless man gets invovled) so LG seems to suit better imho.

>>I'd consider taking a common plot of werewolf movies and flip them round.
Quite whether an evil being gets 'teh angst' about doing good deeds is an interesting question.

Now thats a good idea. I like the idea of Orcs waking up to find things tided, slaves released, unsafe fires put out, armour put in cleaning oil, etc etc.

>>He would find himself cringing every time his tribes-orcs commit acts of evil and cruelty. Just like the scholar he'd wonder why he all of a sudden would have this instinct to be repulsed by such acts that never bothered him before.

Sooner or later therefore, esp if he becomes aware of what he is, the Orc would probably leave or end up attacking the Tribe in Bear form..... could be nasty if he starts infecting them.......

Hum..... thats a thought. Orcs dont have Clerics as such, would a tribe have anyone capable of curing Lycanthropy???

Ah my apologies then, I'm still used to 3e stuff, Haven't read the 3.5e entry closely.

Edit - Orcs traditional have Shamans (DMG Adepts) and the rare cleric of Gruumsh (Cleric), so they do have people capable of curing it (just that the racial wisdom penalty is going to hurt since both are divine casters).

It would be interesting if they started becoming infected... of course that only comes into play if they live through the encounter.

3.5e Afflicted Lycanthropes don't have the Curse of Lycanthropy quality so one afflicted can't afflict more only True Lycanthropes can. True Lycanthropes also get slightly better DR.

When I first saw this I thought, 'nah he's wrong' so I checked and you where totally right. This is news to me as I thought infected Lycans could pass the curse on. I might be thinking of the wrong game addition.

An interesting plot line concerning the last of the true noble Werebears employing the party to find a mate/sucessor fromoutside his forests comes to mind.
