Aww, from the name I was hoping that it would involve Tarquin dying.

Tarquin is cool, but we are almost 900 comics in now, I want to see the OotS get some actual real progress against its foes, like really killing Nale or Tarquin.

Of course, it should be Elan to kill either of those, but still, I'll cheer when either one has X's for eyes.

Too much deux ex machina

IIRC in 3rd edition being deafened gave you about a 20% spell failure chance.

In this fight, every spell cast by the bad guys with a verbal component failed because they were deafened.

"Sounds" rather like some DM fudging going on, here!

Cheers, Al'Kelhar

Does Tarquin leaving his axe behind count?

Z's Shield spell worked, and Nale's Suggestion didn't fizzle--it just didn't work because it requires that the target be able to hear it.

Have to admit, as a GM I fudge that one a lot simply because of its comedic potential.

Sometimes i'm even meaner than 'fizzle'. The major planar binding that was botched last session after the 16th level evil wizard got deafened by a holy word will have ... interesting consequences...

Don't know which line was funnier, the Damn Mansion Whore or "they were completely unbalanced - in all the best ways!"

Tarquin dying here? Nah, I'm not looking forward to that. Getting rid of Nale would be good though, but I don't expect that to happen until the strip has run its course. In general, I think this gate's going to be destroyed too and it will come down to the last gate. Either that gate will also be destroyed freeing the Snarl and/or the new world in there or it will be saved, and I don't think either Xykon or Nale will be finally defeated until things get down to the last gate.
