V is a lousy wizard. No scrolls, wands, or staves?

"I have no potions or scrolls remaining." S/he had scrolls and potions, and used them up in the battle (using three on the Titanium Elementals alone).

And if V pulled out a wand or staff that we didn't see him/her specifically purchase or find earlier in the strip, everyone would scream, "Deus Ex Machina!" all over the place, like they do anytime any character does anything unexpected.

I actually laughed at that for various reasons.

1) the 'Hopefully . . .' comment.

2) Holy cow. Are we going to see V's character change a tad? 'Well, I'm down to an illusion spell; that's completely useless since it doesn't mass-obliterate gobbos.'

Heck of a spot check by Elan.

Nah, V has no ranks in Hide, probably nothing but an elven Dexterity bonus, and s/he takes a -20 circumstance penalty for wearing red in Azure City. ;)

The first half was a little meh (except the octopus) ... but I loved the second half.

I think it's pretty impressive that we are treated - nigh thrice-weekly - to comics that can be spoken of in halves.

Well, Elan did want to learn to be a Wizard from V way back when. . .this is kind of his wish coming true.

So. . .Elan has been taught how to be a competent swordfighter by Julio Scoundrel, and now is being taught how to be an effective caster by V. When Roy comes back to life he won't know what to think when Elan is even more effective.

<quote> "Oh, V, now you're just being silly! If I let myself get hung up on only doing things that had any actual chance of success, I'd never do *anything!*"</quote>

Now those are some great words to live by. And game by.
