organization tools?

Does anyone know of a good program that allows you to create notes and then stick them in some sort of organizational tree where they can be colapsed and expanded?
(so you might have a group entitled creatures and then inside of that Monsters and NPCs and inside of the Monsters Hornsaw and so on).

Obviously I can probably do something like that by creating lots of folders and then creating lots of documents and keeping them all open at once and sort of hopping back and forth writing and cutting and pasting. But as I do this I have to think there's a better way.

Anybody have a better organization system or even a program that lets you do something like what I talked about above.

DM's Familiar

I live and die by this one. It has a "Codex Tree" which does what you seem to be describing.

I live and die by this program. When I input my adventure notes into DMF and run from there my games are much faster and more smooth. When I go from notes, "old school" sans computer, I'm much slower. My players notice this too and can always tell when I was too busy to do my setup in DMF.

In addition to having the Codex, it has a ton of info from the SRD on spells/skills/feats/monsters/items that is searchable and useable in the Codex. There is also a character DB where I store the 'current' version of all my players characters, and a combat tree that makes running combat as streamlined and easy as I have yet seen.

You can even try it free for a month before buying it. I did and did not hesitate to purchase it when my time was up. I even bought it for a friend. Great tool. Best one I have ever tried, and the only one I have ever paid for.

nice

I've been using MyInfo for the past week or so. You were right Eternalknight, it was basically exactly what I was imagining. 38 dollars is a bit steep but have to admit its helped me a lot getting things where they're supposed to be.

CTD, does DM's familiar do anything to help stat creation (you know, if you drop in stats and levels of things does it give you back hit points), increase strength and it bumps up damage for melee weapons, that kind of stuff?
(I don't really run games off my computer, I just print otu cheat sheets)

Thanks both for your help.
