At one friends house, it was usually Queen (The Game and Flash Gordon albums), the Village People, Blondie, Abba, Kansas (Point of Know Return), Reo Speedwagon (Hi Infidelity), Foreigner, AC/DC (For Those about to Rock), Styx (Grand Illusion, Kilroy was Here), Def Leppard (Pyromania). (Mostly what I listened to, at my house, since I copied him a bit).

Dude, what were you doing at our place? ;)

Wow, this is awesome... thanks to everyone who's replied so far! Maybe sometime tomorrow I can go through and note down some of the major trends.

I started at age 12, in 1981. We didn't listen to music and game very often. When we did, it tended to be Pink Floyd. I associate the running and helicopter chasing sounds on "Dark Side of the Moon" with D3 The Vault of the Drow.

For snacks, we'd occassionally eat some Indian mixed stuff -- peas, little salty dried stuff, not sure exactly what. My DM and my fellow player were US-born Indian-Americans. We usually drank Coke. When Nirmal came over to my house to play, he'd bring a lot of supplies, since my mom didn't have snacks -- that would be potato chips and Pop Tarts, that I can remember.

Black Sabbath, Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Journey, Deep Purple, Def Leppard, Rainbow, REO Speedwagon, Rush

Dr. Who playing on the big screen

It was the early 80s, and that's just what you listened to back then. My brother and his friends were the ones to get me hooked.

I wasn't much of a smoker back in the day. I'm a beer guy.

Pizza yes
Chips Yes

smoking yes (Marlboros, not Acapulco Gold, and then only after I turned 18 or 19)

Now?

I have NPR as a preset on the stereo in my car. Sweet Baby Jebus, I'm getting Old.

Pizza yes
Chips Yes
Diet Coke Yes
Smoking No. Glad I'm done with it, filthy habit. Still miss it though... been 10 years since I quit.

Dr. Who saved on DVR to watch on the Plasma. The more things change, the more they stay the same.

In my early days as a D&D player I was big into Rush (the albums Fly By Night and Caress of Steel in particular). "By-tor and the Snow Dog" and "The Necromancer" were favorites because they were like D&D adventures set to music.

I had a mercifully brief progressive rock phase, listening the likes of King Crimson, Yes, and ELP. Then I discovered my true musical passion, punk rock, and my gaming soundtrack became quite different. Some favorite albums from that time:

Minor Threat, S/T
Circle Jerks, Wild in the Streets
The Clash, S/T and Give 'em Enough Rope
Anti Nowhere League, Live in Yugoslavia
Misfits, Legacy of Brutality
Black Flag, Damaged
The Damned, Machine Gun Etiquette
Faith/Void split LP
Dead Kennedys, Fresh Fruit for Rotting Vegetables
Avengers, S/T
7 Seconds, Walk Together Rock Together
Youth Brigade, Sound and Fury
The Descendents, Milo Goes to College
Husker Du, Metal Circus
Bad Brains, Rock for Light
Crass, Feeding the 5,000
Government Issue, Joyride
Conflict, Increase the Pressure
This Is Boston Not LA (compilation)
Flex Your Head (compilation)
Let Them Eat Jellybeans (compilation)

The late 70s / early 80s marked a transition in my musical tastes. I went from listening to Led Zeppelin, Styx, Pink Floyd, Foghat, and to round things out lots of Jimmy Buffett, to being enthralled by New Wave, namely Missing Persons, Men Without Hats, Men At Work, Adam Ant, etc (thank you MTV).... some Pat Benatar, Go-Go's, Motels, and the like... coupled with New Age/Electronic, starting with Jean-Michel Jarre and Cusco.

I started playing D&D around the same time I started playing with computers; Basic D&D and an Apple II+ respectively.

As for snacks, it was Sweet Tarts and Slurpees, while playing Mario Bros. at my favorite 7-11, or lots of Doritos and ginger beer at home.

Super Bonus Answer: "I can hold my breath for a long long time!"

like I said in the other thread: My adolescence was defined by Rush and D&D. Particularly evocative Rush songs include Tom Sawyer, New World Man, Red Barchetta, Spirit of Radio, Free Will.

As for food: Nacho Cheese Dorritos all the way.
