So. . .

Convention season is upon us. I have been to Gencon for the last two years, but was pondering the though of going to Origins instead of Gencon. I have never been to Origins.

Assume that I can only go to on Con - of the two, which should I attend? Any comments or experience would be appreciated.

Traditionally, Origins tends to be more devoted to board games, miniature games, and semi-historical games over roleplaying games. However, it is also much smaller (around 13,000 vs. 27,000 people) and it feels like a more relaxed atmosphere to me. If all you want to do is game, then Gen Con will offer more opportunities, but you get more headaches because of it. With Origins, there are seminars you can attend with some of the bigger names in gaming serving as panelists and it is easier to talk directly to the publishers for more than a few minutes. Both cons have their advantages and disadvantages in my opinion but I tend to like Origins over Gen Con because it just seems less hassled and hurried. :)

It really depends on what you want from the con. I go to both, but Origins is a ten minute drive and Genc con is a bit under three hours, so it's easy for me.

I like origins because it is smaller. I find it is easier to game there, hang out with friends, and talk to people. But Gen Con is amazing. It is more crowded and I really don't game there, but it is an experience to behold.
