This will be my ninth Origins. I usually don't pre-register, but I have this year. They don't send anything hard in the mail, but you do get an e-mail receipt, which I, too, would advise printing and bringing with you.
I usually get to the con on Wednesday. Back in the days when Wizards/Andon was running the con, there was typcially a wait once the registration line officially opened, because the temporary help they hired didn't know how to run the system. Last year I did not pre-reg and waited maybe half an hour in line once they started processing. It went very quickly and smoothly.
