OSRIC and OGC

Just a heads up...

Around the end of September, I'll be making almost all of OSRIC 1 into Open Gaming Content. Exceptions are the artwork, the OSRIC name and the variable experience point rule which will all remain product identity.

This is in preparation for OSRIC 2, which should launch around the same time and won't be OGC. It'll use the existing license.

Of course, OSRIC 2 will be free in .pdf form, just as OSRIC 1 is.

OSRIC 1's a SRD; OSRIC 2's a complete game in one rulebook.

Think of it as Advanced Labyrinth Lord. :) That kind of completeness and that level of production values, but for the 1e system.

Cool, thanks P&P. Are OSRIC 1&2 going to be compatable?

OSRIC 1 adventures and supplements are 100% compatible with OSRIC 2, and indeed vice versa. There's no impact on OSRIC publishers, no impact on any material that's already been written or is being written now.

Compatibility between the rulebooks is about 99.9%. If you look closely enough you might find the occasional tweak to some of the tables.

Any plans on a logo license for OSRIC?

Not really. I'd prefer it if the OSRIC publishers could build their own branding and logos, and I don't want to force them into my own trade dress.

A publisher can print "Compatible with OSRIC" on their products as part of the OSRIC open license, of course--and they can do it in any font, so if they want to make OSRIC into a logo, they can do it.
