Been seeing ACLU bashing. I know it is trendy in some circles to condemn them, but here's the facts:
The ACLU's mission is to fight civil liberties violations wherever and whenever they occur. The ACLU is also active in our national and state capitals, fighting to ensure that the Bill of Rights will always be more than a "parchment barrier" against government oppression and the tyranny of the majority.
Those of us who are Marines or former Marines ought to recognize that our oath was to uphold and protect the Constitution against all en emies, foreign and domestic. The Bill of Rights is the first ten amendments to the constitution, and it enumerates the basic rights of Citizens that CAN NOT be abridged. They were made Amendments so that they would STAND OUT CLEARLY, and there could be no misunderstanding of their intent.
Moreover, if you disagree with the Contstitution and its Bill of Rights, the ACLU is probably the only organization in the country that will defend to the Supreme Court, if necessary, your constitutional right to say it sucks.
My opinion is that most Americans who oppose the Constitution and civil liberties are either opposed violently to some minority segment that has long since been restored their rights, or I have a feeling they are just regurgitate whatever crap they've heard from other people opposed to Citizens having rights.
I'm confident some bigot will come in and twist my words and redirect my meaning, and that this thread will get shut down quickly. I encourage EN Worlders to prove me wrong about how long it takes for posts to get this thread closed, however.
