Well, I'm not talking about a drag queen, a drama queen, or a dancing queen, but a real one.

Within a very short time the Crown Prince Frederik of Denmark is going to announce his engagement to Mary Donaldson from Tasmania.

Why is this important, well for half the worlds population (the female part) this is the realisation of the ultimate dream come true, meeting a prince and becoming a queen.

In this case my fellow danishman, Hans Cristian Andersen, couldn't have written the fairytale better himself.

Mary Donaldson (31 yo) grew up in Tasmania (south of the Australien mainland), went to Oxford, and now works for Microsoft in Denmark. And is the daugther of an Oxford mathematics professor.

Crown Prince Frederik of Denmark (35 yo) (aka Pingo), grew up here, went to Harvard Business School, and is currently a major in the 'Frømandskorpset' (the danish version of the Navy Seals, and in Denmark there are no free rides for royalty).

Ok, here a picture of the happy couple.

Well they said the same thing about Diana... :)

Yeah, but she did grew in a country that actually has royalty, and Prince Charles didn't have to go exactly halfway around the globe to find his princess.

That's awesome. Modern royalty is fascinating because it seems like such an anachronism on this side of the pond. :)

hhmm... well I will refrain from making certain comments on Royalty and Nobility... just that in the end its a bit silly. Just a relic of the past. I know about it personally.

Thou of course this "prince" certainly looks better than Prince "Tampon" Charles.

Why the quotation marks?

I'll remind you that Denmark is the oldest monarchy and the oldest existing nation in the world. Those that think the english monarchy certainly must be older I'll remind that the first king of England was King Kanute (Knud) who was the little brother of the king of Denmark at the time, and was given the country as a present.
