[OT] Anyone remember LaserSquad?

LaserSquad (a turn-based sci-fi tactical skirmish computer game) is being rereleased. You are supposed to play the game online and you order your troops via an e-mail system. Looks neat.

The coolest thing is that they have created a character to whom they attribute various quotes (in the background story). His name is Darrow Gygax - a descendant of Gary perhaps?

Foolish, foolish business model...

This game would be great, and I was going to immediately buy it...except that you can only rent it.

Screw that. When I buy a game, I want to be able to play it whenever I want, regardless of whether the company that created the game goes out of business.

If this is the "way of the future" with regard to commercial software, count me out.

Looks like a cool game, though.
