Want specific pieces, including minifigs and accessories? The Lego Group sells bulk pieces, but not specific pieces: i.e., if you want 14 blue cowboy hats.. chances are you're out of luck. However, http://www.bricklink.com/ has plenty of stuff. Specific individuals open online shops, so you can buy pieces from them.

And if you just want to see heaps of LEGO creations from lots of people, then go to http://www.brickshelf.com/

Go to the LEGO site and have them send you a catalog. There are "bits and pieces" sets in there that include things like figures or hats and accessories, and they're not too expensive.

When I tried to find some specific pieces from their catalogue, I had to face a "no longer produced" answer again and again. Now, when I ordered through this site:

Wow. I simply gave a description of what I needed, specifying which details were important and which were not, and Bill Doran got me everything... and added a couple things more! He also sent me a pic so I could check that it was what I wanted; then only did I pay and when I received the LEGO, they were in a very well protected package. A true five stars service.
