OT: Blade II - Spoiler - Opinions?

First off, not being a fan of gore... Ew. :)

Some friends and I went and saw it when we were at ConnCon and although we all liked it overall, most of us thought it was a bit... icky.

The first fight rocked. Sure, there was obvious CGI and everything, but it still LOOKED cool. The flying elbow drop just made me laugh out loud - that was one of the most thuggish fights I've ever seen.

But my favorite part: Danny John-Jules, aka The Cat from Red Dwarf, playing a vampire ninja. :D

Blade III: Comics Continuum reports that during an appearance on CBS's "The Early Show", Wesley Snipes talked a bit about the possibility of a third film: ""It's on. It's on. The response for Blade II has been so great, and the movie's not even out yet. But everybody's talking about doing it. Three's a charm". Does he have reservations like he did after the first film about doing a second? "No, not this time. Because our first attempt at the film was a noble attempt, but there were a lot of things we didn't really understand. We didn't really know what the world was going to be like". The first two film's writer David Goyer is set for the third and "has indicated he would like to complete a trilogy with a movie set in the future where vampires rule the world". Director Guillermo del Toro might also return. Thanks to 'FanHalen'.

And speaking of Marvel super-hero movies,

Spider-Man 2: Comics Continuum again has a major scoop today - an interview with Producer Avi Arad about the possibility of a sequel to the upcoming "Spider-Man" film: "Everybody on the movie is signed for a sequel, and Sam Raimi, who directed movie one, is doing movie two, which we hope to start in production this coming January. So obviously, this particular franchise is going to be predictable (in release) and profitable for us. We are now developing Spider-Man 2 and I can tell you the only reoccurring character that's exactly the way it was in the first movie is the costume of Spider-Man. Everything else will change. He grew, there will be new villains, he'll deal with new issues and so on and so forth. From a product standpoint, when you look at the movie, there will be new opportunities; in fact, there will be more opportunities than in movie one. It takes the first movie, the origin movie, really to tell the story and explain the world. And therefore, it's tougher to deal with more than one villain". Arad hopes to produce a new Spidey and "Hulk" flick every two years. Thanks to 'Fan Halen'

It's about damn time Marvel started making good super-hero movies!

It seems that the popular opinion on this thread is "I hated it!!!"

But I will say that it was an enjoyable movie. I came in wanting an A$$ kikin movie with a lot of fighting and CGI and a hot chick and cool characters- and that was exactly what I got. An added bonus was the chinese samurai (Donny Yen). I loved his previous movies and have been watching him in chinese for about 15 years now. And I thougth it was really cool that he had no lines either- just hand gestures... but his death lacked a lil luster.

(edit) did anyone notice that his jump kik (in the vamp club) was actually a triple kick where he jumped and kiked with right, left, right and then landed. It has been his trademark for years. I loved it... but the camerawork could have been betterin showing it was a triple kik instead of a loppy jumpkik.

The only part that bothered me was that the head Vampire guy showed Blade his most imtimate and sacred places. i know he wanted to gain his trust, but that doesnt mean that you have to spill everything. I know that the blood pool was a way for blade to regain consciousness after being drained, but it could have better placed.

And also the part where he left the mbryos out for whistler to just creamate- it was hard work gone to waste cause he forgot to put them back in the incubator.

One last thing- he had no real powers. SInce he is the father to all vampires, or so i thougt, I was hoping he would have some dark powers...but h had nothing. a genetic mutant killed him by rippin his neck in two...
(amd how could he bite? he has no lower jaw...?

but as a whole- the movie was really enjoyable- especially the final battle where they were throwing each other through walls and breaking concrete with each others' heads... that made it so much better to see that they have super str, healing ability (high con) and agility to boot.

i think the CGI added a good kik. the producers made a move to CGI replacing actors in fight scenes- a bold move. Someone had to do it. I hope that in teh future- it will be a lot better- but for now- i was happy with what it had.

X men was an excellent movie, but I have a problem seeing Ian McClellan as Magneto. They should have gotten a stronger presence, at least a stronger voice for him.

But his acting was great. I especially liked the final conversation they had with each other... in a plastic room...

(little tangent here)

LOL, I just looked at your profile and realized it was you, Rydia. Funny thing is, more than one person said, "Hey, where's Rydia? She's goes everywhere."

So what's next on the con schedule for you? Conflagration?

getting back to the topic... well sort of... im not sure how i felt about the actor who played Magneto either. i felt he did an excellent job but im not sure if he was the right person.

...and why didnt they make Rogue older so that they could put in Gambit!!! crying

(and to answer your question, Conflag is the next event i am attending)

I couldn't disagree with more people. The filming tight in was perfect. The director wanted people to feel clostrophobic, and he succeeded. The fight's were great. Most of the people I work with in the stunt show we are doing were very impressed.

As for taking all the fun out of the movie. there were more jokes in this movie then the last. Snipes took full advantage of his character and fleshed it out even more.

This was a better movie than the last. It worked.

I say, bring on 3 and 4.

Just saw it last night, and one thing kept eating me.

Not the negative aspects of the movie and how bad it was at moments. I have a theater degree, and if I had not learned to "turn off" my critical aspect, I would not be able to watch much of any entertainment.

Not the "loudness", though I keep hoping that someone will do an action movie with Folk Music, rather then Rap.

It was, in fact, that I kept thinking of Eliza Dashku. Everytime Scud would say "B", I would think of her. He said it with the same inflection as Eliza (Faith from BtVS) always used. Okay, there really are not that many ways to say "B", but it kept tugging at me.

Another thing was sad to me. I love the Power Puff Girls. I just wish the person in the movie who liked them had been a bit, well, cooler. ;)

Blade II is everything Resident Evil should have been. Gadgets up the wazoo, great combat scenes, techno music (Great Massive Attack song too, "I against I" (w/ Mos Def)), tons and tons of gore (as opposed to the clinical asceptism of Resident Evil) and typical badass Blade attitude (props to Whistler and Reinhardt too, great one liners).

It's supposed to be a 2 hour long videoclip, and that's what I got. [/B]

I liked Resident Evil more than Blade II for movie quality. I also look at them as two different movie types though.

Blade II was an action movie. I went to the theater to see the fight scenes. Not for plot, great acting, soundtrack, etc. but for the combat between the vampires and blade.

I expected the Resident Evil movie to be similar to the game in tone, mood, and "shock". A movie meant to make some people frightened, and others laugh at how silly it is to split up in a zombie infested area when you have limited weapons. It was as it should have been; an enjoyable movie based on a video game. Its a lot better conversion than Street fighter. Capcoms Resident Evil was always based on scarring the player (thats why its call Survival Horror) rather than just Action. I think the movie was trying to capture that (whether it succeeded or not is up to the individual).

As far as both of them are concerned, I thought they were both enjoyable, but not something I'd go out of my way to see again. If it comes on TNT, I'll watch it, but I'm probably not going to pay another $4.50 to see it again. Maybe Resident Evil, but not Blade (or Blade II).
