OT concerning copyrights

If anyone can answer this I'd muchly appreciate it.

I am intending to make a few D&D PrC, races and rules concerning various novels I have read. I will be using the situations in the novels as the starting point, and building the stuff with a close eye to detail. As such, I have hit a quandry.

I do not know if copyright laws would prohibit me from posting these things on ENWorld. I would like to put them here, but I also do not want to break laws or trample on author's toes, as this would fall into the "not so good thing to do" category. Anyone know how this would work? Would I be breaking any laws or not? Thanks.

I think it's ok, as long as you make it clear that it's not your work (the concepts that is) and you're not trying to make cash out of it.

Most authors don't enforce what's known as the Derivitive Works clause of copyright law. There are a few that do, notably Robert Jordan was some years ago, but overall it should be fine. I highly doubt anyone will care, and if they do they'll ask you to stop nicely.

I think it would also fall under "Fair Use" if you're soliciting a critique from friends (in this forum) for "how can I adapt this to my game at home?"

If you want to be as legal as possible, it's probably worth noting that, while posting such a thing on the boards for feedback could be backed by Fair Use, puting the same thing on a personal web page would be much more questionable. If said web site has banners that make money for someone, it would be just plain illegal.
