[OT] Getting Video from Camcorder onto PC

Mercury

First Post
I just purchased Adobe Premiere 5.1 so I could download the videos from my Mini-DV Camcorder to my PC, however, when I try to do the movie capture feature under the File button it says "Unable to Connect to Capture Driver" It does work with my Logitech PC Camera, but that doesn't have the resolution that I am looking for. ere are the Specs, as I assume they will help.

Camcorder: Sharp Model: VL-WD450U

Software: Adobe Premiere 5.1

Computer: System: AMD Athlon, 1333MHz

Memory: 384MB RAM DDR

Video: NVIDIA GeForce2 MX/MX 400

Video Resolution: 1152 x 864, 32-bit

OS:Windows 2000 SP2

Partition Format: NTFS

Level 1 Cache: 32 KB

Level 2 Cache: 256 KB

Cached Speed: 266.23 MB/s

Uncached Speed: 2.26 MB/s

Sound Card: Sound Blaster Audigy Gamer (has a 1394 firewire port)

If you could please give me any help as to how I can get my video from my Camcorder to my PC, I would greatly appreciate it.

You probably ought to check and make sure your Sound Blaster has a video capture capability. Or, you might go to your camera's manufacturer's web page to see if they have any Windows patches for that particular model. I use Premiere 6.0 and two different Sony Digital8 cameras without any problems.

Try this, go to "My Computer" With the camera turned off, plug it into the FireWire port, turn the camera on. The computer should recognize it after a few seconds. If not, you may have to get a new driver, like I mentioned before. Good luck.

Greetings. I don't use Adobe Premiere (I use Final Cut Pro), but I will tell you that (assuming you are hooked up to the camera via firewire), you are about 99% likely to have a problem with preferences. I recommend that you check out the helpful discussion boards at 2-pop.

Additionally, I didn't notice that you listed what size your hard-drive is. You'd better figure on taking up about 1 gig of space for every 5 minutes of captured footage (high quality, that is). If you haven't already, look into getting additional drives. Things will run smoother and you'll be a lot happier. Again, check out 2-pop for great advice.
