[OT] Good Laser Printer for printing PDFs

dema

First Post
I am looking to get a lazer printer (because I read about the EN World members and their lovely lasers.)

There is an HP for 400 and another one for 200, plus a few Brothers. does anyone have some real life experience, I want to get one so I can print out PDFs and other things from the web peeps.

Any advice would be great. I'm willing to speed up to 500, but if I can speed 200-300 that would be great, so I can buy some more RPG books.

Thanks in advance,

-dem

I just take my pdfs to Kinkos and have them printed on laser paper. Much cheaper that way! :D

Of course, many copy centers, including Kinkos on occasion (Depends who's working there) now have a "We don't touch copyrighted stuff with a 10 foot pole" rule, so...

If you go to the computers yourself and print it out yourself, they ussually won't harass you. (This is from an ex-Kinko's CS manager, but that was a very long time ago, so they might have changed their policies)

I have an HP LaserJet IIIp. It's old. I understand there are no drivers for Windows XP for this printer. Good news is I've had it for ten years now and it still runs and has only jammed maybe once that I can remember. When I shop for a new laser printer I will surely look for an HP.

Hewlett Packard is your best bet in my opinion, and unless I'm mistaken, the Dell printer mentioned earlier looks like a re-branded HP.

I have had very bad personal experiences with Brother Laser Printers in the past, as well as Okidata LED printers, and Epson and Panasonic Lasers. (Thank God Panasonic doesn't make them any more.)

Hewlett Packard is best in my opinion, having used HP Laserjets such as the IIID and the 4, from about 1994 onward.

The Dell printer is actually a rebranded Lexmark. The biggest benefits to it though are that it comes in at a nice price and if something does go wrong, you get Dell service and support.

The Dell service and support thing is what would cinch it for me.

I've got a Brother HL1440, which does quite well (and it's a little cheaper than the HP models). But the HPs ought to work well, also.
