[OT] How are you doing?

Datt, 3-letter telecom companies are the norm, aren't they? I work for the 6-letter telecom. The #4 one.

And we just got a house last year, too, so I'm not exactly sure where our taxes are going to end up this year. Should be pretty good, I think.

Ah, well I work for the #2 local telephone company and was wondering if you might as well. Saw that your are from KC and I know we have quite a few works up there.

My advice to you is to look for something within walking distance of your house. It may not be much, but anything will help boost your confidence and self-esteem. You might even look into the construction industry. I don't know about Melbourne, but here there's always building going on somewhere. Start off as an apprentice, tell them you'll work for peanuts to get the training and experience. And the best part is, you get the satisfaction of seeing a job completed (which is hard to come by this day and age), and they don't care what kind of grimy clothes you come to work in.
You know what I hate most about my situation?

People giving me advice like this... for some reason I get it all the time and it's always pretty much exactly the same thing. What else do I expect from someone who has put in all of twelve seconds thought into the matter?

Of course, this all assumes that I'm too stupid and lazy to put in that amount of thought or effort myself.

I also find that people who think things are so easy and black & white as above have never really had to want for anything. Such people should reserve comment until they've been through what I've been through.

I mean no offense by this, but I'm tired of hearing such 'advice' over and over again as if I haven't already tried or done everything and anything that anyone, however well meaning, could possibly think of or suggest. After all, I've been in this position for a long time and kinda think I've been there and done that...

I'm doing well.
Having touble trying to figure out how to pay for my daughter's collage starting next year. It is going to cost over half of my wife's and mine income after the 8K schollarship she got.

My wife on the other hand is being stressed out by work. She is responsible for the Texas Army National Guard cell phone accounts and has been under stress as things go wild due to the various moblizations occure. Now they are talking about switching accounts and she will have to order and program all hunders of cell phones and then insure they get delivered. All the while redoing all of her account records.

The only good thing is we are getting to game a lot and let her release her stress by pounding orc, and other monsters. :-)

How many people used to or still work for "NDJ" Telecom, now bankrupt? I am a former employee as well from the Iowa City area, who thankfully landed on my feet in DC. I like to hear from "NDJ" people 'cause the stories are way too funny... in that sad sort of way. ;)

Me? I am doing okay. Started a permanent job at the start of year. Worried about the talking heads over in the Hill and WH and their idiocy. And I mean all of them. Wife and I are doing well. Starting a new game on Sat the 22nd and still trying to finalize V-day plans. (I procrastinate a lot, he he he). Have a leak roof and may need to get all the pipes replaced in my home. But all in all, I am happy.

Doing great, thank you.

I'm working on my Ph.D. in English, which allows me to read a lot of great books and deal with intelligent and interesting people. I'm paying by bills by teaching at the university, which is the career I've chosen and something I love doing. I have a place of my own, which lets me get as much peace and solitude as I could want.

Couldn't be better, and if I find a way it could, I'll get there shortly.

Well....I am doing pretty good :)

die_kluge, I work for same company :) You don't work on the campus, do you?

Wife has a cold, but nothing serious. Kids are well though :)

I'm employed, wife is employed - though you never know what will happen :(

Thanks for asking!

Lol, that's the best thing I've heard in this entire thread, lol. Seriously, that's great, I love it. I wish you all the best and hope you don't have to sell your souls for the college fund... although, if Jack Chick is right, then all you have to do is spare 5,000XP for a Wish spell :)

Doing well. Got married 4 months ago, and honeymooned in Spain. Fun was had. Happiness all around. Now if I can just
remember to say "wife" instead of "girlfriend" things should work
out okay...

Left my last job, as it had become a "zombie" company (enough money from venture capitalists to last a long time, but not enough to ever succeed) IMO. Joined up with a defense
contractor (actually managed to pull of a slight raise in this
crappy economy) doing security software, thinking I would be
working on a contract. Contract hasn't come in for those 4 months. So lately, I spend a lot of time surfing the web. Not exactly what I was looking for in a job, but I am grateful to have a decently paying job. Alot of people I know are still looking.

Not particularly happy about the state of the U.S. government,
but politics are not for the EN boards, so I'll leave out that rant.
