(OT) How effed up is this?!

I used to work in 1 WTC a while back, and I'd actually pay good money for something that could accurately and realistically model the situation from my POV if I'd still been there on 9/11.

This, on the other hand, looks boring, ugly and tasteless... Making the critical decision on whether or not to jump out a window? Yeah...

Mmh... it is being done for the heaps of free advertising that it will undoubtedly draw. Anyway, there are plenty of games about WW2, so a game on 9/11 doesn't really bother me. FPSs no longer interest me, though.

Why not? There are games about World War 2, the holocaust, various other wars and disasters based on the real world. 90%+ of them coded and manufactured by US based companies. Nobody ever complained because the game was based on tragic in OTHER countries.

I think this is a pretty cool idea in fact. A new theme. It's a game we are talking about. Could be any Tom Clancy game in fact.

Excuse me?

First of all, saying WW2 is something tragic that happened to "other" countries is very disingenous. There were hundreds of thousands of US dead, so unless you approach the number of dead as a contest, you're completely wrong, and regardless, completely out of line.

Second, please name one game not made by some neo-nazi moron that is about the Holocaust, as opposed to WWII and the events surrounding it.

Finally, there's a huge difference between replaying major historical events in a strategy game, or playing the role of a soldier in a FPS, and getting your rocks off seeing how many ways you can get a victim of a tragedy to die, which is what this game (with all the emphasis on window-jumping) is going to amount to. Kind of like the difference between playing the Pacific campaign in a WW2 wargame (from either side) vs. playing "The Rape of Nanking".

True. But the WW2 was never US exclusive, if you know what I mean.

Wolfenstein for instance.

According to the webpage ( http://www.kinematic.org/911game.html ) the game is about survining. Not killing each other.

Edit: Please note that I only see this as a GAME. I threat it as a GAME. If you want to discuss politics or the WTC event, go elsewhere, or the thread will get locked.

I think they're is a place set aside in Baator for the chumps that made/are making this game.

As for the WW2 argument, I think they're is a few more people still mad about Sept. 11, as opposed to Pearl Harbor (etc), because they're are still people still mourning the loss of loved ones, this example excludes the Halocaust, cause that has and always will be a sensative subject, and rightfuly so.

But if in 20-40 years from now, someone wants to cast Ben Affleck as a big corprate ceo trying to escape the WTC, it wont be AS bad as it would be now, just give the people time to mourn their dead.

Besides, I think a game based on the hunt for Saddam would make more money anyways. This whole WTC game is just a bunch of goobers trying to piss people off.

So don't you think a saddam hunting game will piss people off too?

Honestly? No, not as baddly as this, because I belive a game came out for PS2 on these grounds, not 100% positive though. I'll try to keep as from from politics with this as possible...

Saddam is a bad-guy, people would pay money to kill Saddam in a game. Slap a $20.00 price tag on the game. And you got a fierce shot of money in your pocket. You could gather clues and pay off informants to get info on his location and everything.

But do I think this is the sensitive thing to do? Hell no, I was just saying it'd get a better response. In the US atleast, dunno about France.

As someone who lost family and friends at the WTC on 9/11, as someone who witnessed the towers fall (and not on TV), I just want to say that I'm very impressed and touched by the number of people who know how wrong and tasteless this truly is.
