[OT] I've played Soul Calibur 2 on the X-BOX (unbelievably awesome!)

As a Siegfried fan I have to point out that is not true. The alternate outfit is just Nightmare without the armor and doesn't play like Siegfried (yes there's a difference).

Sorry but it is true (at least in the XBOX version). Nightmare has 3 costumes (pretty sure we've unlocked everything) and they all play the same. Siegfried is not a seperate character unfortunately.

Another fun thing is there are tons of different weapons for every character (they all have a twisted version for their soul blade, for example), and the different weapons have different qualities. It's pretty cool using Seung Mina's big gown costume and laying the smack down with a broom.

It hadn't occured to me that the game might load slowly as we copy all the games to an expanded (60 gig I think it was) hd. I'm pretty sure this setup is totally legal (as long as you're still buying the games and not downloading them) so if people want to do away with those load times you should look into it.

Nightmare has always just been Siegfried corrupted by the Soul Edge. SC2 just decided not to separate him into two characters any more.

Am I the only one here who played the it in the arcade?

Am I the only one who played the original Soul Edge where they show Siegfried becoming Nightmare? Nah...

So how would I go about playing an import version of SC2 on my PS2? Is there a place on the web I can buy an adaptor or a special boot disk?

Oh, and if you're a SC fan you HAVE to check out the X-Arcade sticks (they make them for all the consoles). FAR superior to playing on a console controller. Even if you only get the single, once you get acclimated to it (assuming you don't play a lot of arcade games, otherwise you probably already are) you'll have a ridiculous advantage over other players. There's no contest between playing SC on a regular console controller and an arcade one. The consoles just don't handle the different grab combinations and what not that well. Unfortunately the X-Arcades can be pretty expensive, but there was a place that had a really good deal on the double just recently. I'll find out if it's still going on and post back if so.

Yes he has, but my point which you missed is that tere are enough differences between the characters in order for them to play differently. On SC I used Siegfried and ignored Nightmare, who I didn't like using. It wasn't until SC2 when I had no choice that I started using Nightmare.

Forget it. You have to either buy a hack kit, pull apart your PS2, and do some grainy modding, or ship it off for someone else to do it, and pay upwards of $50, and that doesn't include importing the game.

I considered it too, and decided that August isn't so far away. :)

Got it for the cube...

The button configuration suXors, but... :D

How does Link play? I'll admit, I'm trying to decide between the cube and Xbox versions, and even though most of my friends have Xboxes....Link's presence makes the cube version very tempting.

Are there arcade-like sticks for the Xbox and Cube available? I honestly haven't even checked. One of the two things that was hardest to give up when I traded in the Dreamcast (towards the cube) was Soul Calibur.

Yes there are, question is how much are you willing to pay?

I'll search later for some links, if no one beats me to it.

If you have a stick for the PS/PS2 you could get an adaptor to use it on the 'box or 'cube (I'll search for the link to that later as well).

Link plays... oddly. He's got ranged attacks... A first as far as I know for the series. But they aren't all that great, so don't worry there. He's semi-strong, semi-tough, and semi-fast. His real "strength" is that his moves have a lot of ooomph... If your looking for a character to get ringouts with, this is probably your guy. His kicks aren't even worth mentioning.

www.play-asia.com has a pretty good GC stick for like 40 bucks, but shipping is pretty high from them.
