The short story is that the first (independant) constitution in Norway was signed on the 17. of May 1814, after 300 years of danish rule. After that we were in a (somewhat loopsided) union with Sweden until 1905 when we finally got our independance.

In reality we were traded as war spoils after the Napoleonic wars to Sweden, but still ......
