OT:Olympic Hockey: THE SWEDES ARE OUT!!!

It was a good game. The Russian/US game though, now THAT will be NASTY. Any word if Tkachuk is going to play? How about John LeClair? I heard he got dinged pretty well at the end of the game against Germany.

No word on Tkachuklehead, but he's supposed to be having an MRI on his leg. Gary and JD called it a bruised thigh and I'm hoping that's all it is.
John Boy just got hit in the mouth with a stick (partly his fault) and lost a tooth, but he finished the game so no reason to worry there.
Weight got a hand injury of some kind (they had a shot of him with his fingers in a cup) and ended up not playing in the third. JD later said they were told it was because of the flu and to allow him to rest.
So it looks like the only guy to worry about right now is Tkachuk, but we still have Hull so no matter (who gave up a goal tonight so that Chelios ended up getting credit for it).

Cool! I'm glad to hear we only have one player that has some serious problems. Russia gave the US fits even with a FULL lineup.

That's why I'm worried, but like I said they only need one more win for any medal (bronze is nothing to be ashamed of).

Forgot to mention how surprised I was about Sweden's loss in my frst post. I had turned on ESPN2 to see if PTI got bumped there because of golf when I just caught the score before it disappeared and thought to myself 'Did I just see what I thought I saw?' A few minutes and commercials later I thought 'Holy crap!'
Just wish I had been able to see the first two games however. No games have shown up on MSNBC even when they're listed.

Tommy did the right thing, heading the high puck as it went for goal. Unfortunately, it glanced off and went behind him (instead of bouncing back, as 99.99% of such high shots would...)

Poor Sweden. But the Belorus played VERY well, and the swedes seemed dazed from the get go. Not all their fives were working hard, and shooting at the goalie instead of the goal doesn't help score. Seemed to me that a large number of those 47 swedish shots "at goal" Mezin stopped with his abdomen...

IMO the Belarus opportunities were MUCH more dangerous than the majority of the Swedish shots "on goal", they deserved the win.

I tuned in to MSNBC as well, and wondered, "Where's my hockey?!"--then I realized that the game was on CNBC.

As to the Sweden/Belarus game...

...well, it took me a full day before I could even look at this thread :(

YES!! And with the victory of Team Canada over the Finns last night, all thats stands between us and the USA in the gold medal game is...BELARUS (yes, i know the USA still has to toast Russia).
Woot! Way to go North America!

A bit of solace...

The Swedish women took the Bronze Medal in hockey today by defeating Finland :). Perhaps that provides a small measure of comfort.

For the record, I wanted to see Canada/Sweden in one semi-final and USA/Russia in the other. That would have been some amazingly good hockey, fraught with a hundred different subplots and vengeful storylines.

Really? Drat. Every other time something was supposed to be on MSNBC and wasn't I checked CNBC and NBC just to make sure, this time I didn't bother.
