I was thinking of posting the same story (except from the NYT). It's pretty amazingly cool.

Monkey Cyborgs Rock! I read about this earlier today, and was wondering when it would come up here. Hopefully this won't find military use, or at least if it does, all sides use this technology.

I'm legitimately thrilled. I want my cyberdeck now.

Now, if we can just teach them to answer the door, we'll have achieved the pinnacle of civilization: robot monkey butlers.

And may I be the first to counter:

Monkey cyborgs are broken.

Monkey cyborgs got the shaft

But consider how useful this could be for disabled people. Hopefully it'll be put to good use.

How utterly cool.

I wonder if you can create extra limbs in this fashion? I've done the thought exercises for four arms, I just don't know if it'd work...

And it's cool that the monkeys think it's cool too.

I wonder if you could use non-invasive tomography to pick up brain signals, or if that doesn't have enough resolution? I suppose it'd depend on whether you were using nuclear magnetic resonance or positrons or whatever's most efficient. We'll probably need implants for the first generation, after which point, who knows?

I just had a thought; what might happen if a monkey were hooked up to a humanoid robot, and given feedback via VR glasses. Could it learn to walk like a human? For that matter, I know it's far beyond our technology, but what if those apes who have been taught to sign could be hooked up to vocalizers? Could they learn full human syntax (or something like it)?

Beyond the obvious uses, I think we've witnessed a vast leap forward for humanity.

If you can even call it humanity after we're through with it... which I'm all in favour of, actually. Teach us a little humility if the President of the World is a monkey.
