(OT -- So OT It's Not Funny) Good Grief How I HATE MS Word

To turn off AutoNumbering

Word 2002 (XP)
To disable AutoNumbering, Tools|AutoCorrect Options ... select the "Auto Format As You Type" tab, uncheck "Automatic Numbered Lists".

I am sure that in Word 2000, it is in a similar place. Try Tools|Options and look for references to AutoCorrect.

Personally, I am with Henry. I worked with WordPerfect and Word, and I will take Word *any* day over WordPerfect.

Word is not perfect (no pun intended), but it *is* very good.

I hope the above tip helps.

Silveras beat me to it, I was going to help with the Autonumber problem, it can be annoying in a number of instances. I also far prefer Word to WordPerfect.

Gods I am happy to own Word Perfect. I got a version for five dollars with my printer many years ago, and updated to version 10 about two years ago. The printer is now long gone, but Word Perfect is here to stay. The fact that included Bitstream Font Navigator is just the frosting on the cake. :)

The Auld Grump, who also owns Word, and never uses it...

This thread makes me not want to get the latest version for Mac. But then again, I'm still using Word 5.0 and MacWrite Pro 1.5.3.… from 1994. But I've more recent version at work, so I hate auto-numbering, too.

Why don't you jerks LOOK AT THE SETTINGS before you use a wordprocessor? Did you know word can autobackup? Did you know "auto" numbering can be turned off? Also, since XP all these settings are portable... that means your work computer and home computer don't have to be different.

No need to call names. It's a violation of CoC.

Yes, if you call names, Narylhotep will rise up from the deep and devour you! And Great Cthulhu will consume you! (Sorry, it's near Halloween, and It doesn't look like I'm going to get to play my Halloween CoC game).

ciaran00, no need to call names, please. We try to be civil with our fellow posters.

Whether someone has looked at their settings or not is dependent on whether or not they know where to look, a prevalent problem with most new programs. Most problems with a given word processor can be solved with a little familiarity, except for issues of look and feel.

(Sorry to hear about the game, Remus. Ironically, I'm about to play on Saturday a halloween CoC adventure I've had on hold since 2001!)
