[OT] Tarot Cards and the News

The profiler was saying he might play D&D because it would allow him to act out his need to play God.

That's not quite what the profiler said. I posted this in the "Sniper plays D&D" thread yesterday, but I'll post it here as well:

Here's the relevant clip:

"This kind of person may have interest in superheroes, Dungeons & Dragons, any kind of game with power and control, kind of movies like Arnold Schwarzenegger movies, where the 'Predator,' where he goes after people."

well what i think about the D&D thing is this:

We all play gods. We have charaters that pick on less than human races and subdue them or kill them. We've all done it in game.

Not to mention, D&D gives everyone a chance to be someone else. If this guy is mentally unbalanced, he was prolly picked on when he was younger and D&D (or any other FRP) gives him a chance to be someone else. He finally snapped and its took over.

I believe one guy on here had to stop roleplaying b/c reality and fantasy got blurred for a while. But hes better now.

Also, he is a serial killer. He has a prefered method of killing: sniping. He has a prefered victim: those who are completely unaware they are targeted.

Isn't that a little too vague? I mean, preferred victims of any serial killer, be it John Wayne Gacy, Henry Ray Lucas, Ted Bundy, Jeffrey Dahmer, etc., were all unaware they were targeted.

I'm not a profiler, but I think the guy falls under the spree killer or thrill killer more than serial. Serial killers have a preferred target that is usually pretty easily defined once the killings start (for Bundy it was females, for Gacy it was young male boys, etc.).

The freak in MD is just picking people off at random (not saying it isn't premeditated; there's just no clearly defined type of person that could fall victim to this a-hole).

Sorry, but I could care less if he was ritually beaten every day for his entire childhood, that doesn't justify killing innocent people. Who cares if he was picked on? We all get picked on to some extent, for what ever reasons, but do we all go out and start playing predator? No.

Don't feel sorry for this idiot. Don't try to relate to him. Find him, execute him, send your thoughts/prayers to the people affected.

Not always true...

Probably a copy-cat or a prankster. A serial killer does not change their MO which is what makes them a serial killer.

What makes a serial killer a serial killer is that he kills serially. It is not impossible or unknown for a serial killer to change his MO. Bundy did, and it was partly due to thinking that serial killers don't do that sort of thing that kept him on the streets a bit longer.

dont get me wrong. I dont feel sorry for this guy. Im saying that the reason they say he MAY play D&D is for those reasons.

Thats what my friend in psychology says at least ...

Someone pointed this odd fact out ... one odd coincidence is that one of the opening events in Death Undaunted, A Ravenloft game and written years ago now, also involved a sniper attack and a warning written on a tarokka card.

Tarokka cards being the Ravenloft equivalent of the Tarot
