[OT] Tenth Planet in Solar System

Its a long article but I would appreciate it if you read the whole thing and even checked out the other articles he links too. Especially the article on the Discovery Channel website. Id like this to be a somewhat serious discussion, but you know how that goes :).

In a couple of hours I will post a link to a thread I started on the Bad Astonomy website. Im sure there will be some debunking info in there (I hope so ).

I checked out the "ZetaTalk" link and found out two things:

1.) The Hazelwood guy is accused of lifting most of his information from ZetaTalk. He was banned from the ZetaTalk mailing list for constantly posting get-rich-quick schemes.

2.) The information from ZetaTalk comes from Zetan aliens, who channel their information through a woman named Nancy.

Just a couple of things to consider.

This sounds an awful lot like Velekovsky (sp?) and his wacked out beliefs. I don't really doubt that there is a large hunk of rock in the solar system, but I doubt the rest of the claims, especially the ones saying that it's going to pass close by the earth.

I could write all the obviously wrong "facts" in that page on a sheet of paper, but it would need to be an A2 size. If I added the stuff that's not obviously wrong but is wrong nonetheless, I would need a blanket.

Can you type up some of the more obvious wrong things? Im really interested in some of that stuff getting serious debunking...

Don't bother. Those who are inclined to believe it will simply dismiss anything you say as being part of the "cover up". Lack of evidence is proof of the success of the "cover up". All scientists are lackies of the government, and tens of thousands of people can all be involved in keeping a secret with none of them blabbing. Furthermore, government sabotage of every privately-owned telescope and observatory is what prevents anyone else from finding out these Amazing Facts.

What's especially amazing, to me, is that no matter how many dates pass with nothing happening, the credulous keep buying it.

Dagger the problem with bebugging it is that you need people in the fields to hit it with facts. A lot on the site is true or taken from other sites but it is it is a piece here and a peice there that are put together in a way that leads a reader to the concussions that the write wants you to have.

He shows no orbits, he gives no X, Y, or Z coordinates. There is no hard math to check.

BUT then you have stuff like this happen...

The order of magnitude between an astreoid and a planet (in terms of mass) is incredible. With the amount of gravitational research done in the solar system since the 20s, you'd think that someone would have noticed the perturbations in orbit that would have been caused by another planet. (This is what caused astronomers to look for, and find, Neptune.) If there were such a planet, it would mean that current theories of gravity are not only wrong, but so wrong that only an incredibly unlikely coincidence of factors lead us to our current theory. So unlikely that we might as well assume that the sun won't rise tomorrow.

How accurate?

For an idea about how accurate current gravity measurements are, you could look to Clifford Will's book, Was Einstein Right?. (I can't give you the year and publisher, my copy has gone missing!) The book is not too technical, and is a fairly easy read.

As scientists are currently looking for a theory to replace the General Theory of Relativity, they are performing more and more tests to get an accurate picture of the action of gravity. GTR continues to be incredibly accurate and there is not yet a successor theory.
