[OT?] Turn-based X-COM?

I just received a copy of X-COM: UFO Defense in the mail today. (It's perfectly legit. Came in a bundle with 7 other games.) Trouble is, it runs too quickly. And when I try to MOSLO it down to 25% speed, I get a fatal error.

So, my question is, Is there a turn-based X-COM? Because I like the concept of X-COM (though is there a first-person shooter component? I don't think so, since it sounds turn-based combat, with each soldier, based on their skill level, getting a certain number of action units per turn), but when you get three UFO sightings and one landing within literally 30 seconds of starting the game, even before setting up your first base, at BEGINNER level, the game needs to be slowed down.

Hopefully, someone can help out.

No idea, but that game brings back memories. THat was one cool game, and one of the few gamess (maybe a half dozen total) that I played all the way through many times.

You can slow down the passage of time in the game itself. When you have the global view, there should be a bunch of buttons along one side that let you change how long each "tick" is in-game. I don't know how much it would help, but probably a bit.

No luck with the timing stuff.

Oh well. Hopefully, there's a more modern version of the game out there. Or is there a game with the same feel? Technology, tactical & turn-based combat, base building, etc.?

I suppose yours is the first X-Com game, which I knew as "UFO:Enemy Unknown"? There are also two sequels of this game I am aware of, both not quite new but the second, "X-Com Apocalypse", lists a 90 MHz Pentium I as system recommendations and should be able to deal with faster PCs. Could be there is even a fourth or fifth game out by now.

The gameplay for "Apocalypse" is similar to the other two games, only that you defend a single city (done in details) and not the entire world. As with the earlier games, the strategical map for chasing Ufos runs in real-time, but you can set it to go as slowly as seconds, and tactical combat is turn-based (or - optionally - real-time, but I never liked that).

Beats me where and how you could get "X-Com: Apocalypse" rigt now, though, I bought it in '97 when it was new.

I started at 25%. Why? Did you get it to work at 75%? Or is it commonly accepted practice to start at 75% and work down? (I used to be able to play Star Control with MoSlo, but it for some reason stopped working. The copy-protection hack--inserted by the company, not by a hacker--is problematic, so I deleted the game. Aside from that, I haven't used MoSlo, so I don't have experience.)

What version of MoSlo are you using (that helps sometimes too). I find it works better if you start at around 75% and work your way down by 10% increments or so (even 5% when you hit 50).

I'm using version 1.32, the evaluation version.

There's some version on the CD that the X-Com game came on, though, but it doesn't seem to work....

Maybe I should uninstall MoSlo, and try to install the one on the CD?
