Hmm WebTV, I know nothing about it, what is it like?
With my little experience using a Dreamcast to go online I know I wouldn't want to do it without a computer.
WebTV is my non-computer internet access. Actually, technically it's called MSNTV now. It used to be owed by Philips Magnavox, but Mirosoft bought it out because, as we know, Bill Gates is evil and wants to own anything and everything even partly computer related.
Basically, it's a small black box which hooks to your tv set. It accesses the internet for you, using your tv as a monitor. When I got mine, you had to buy the remote controlled keyboard seperately. I don't know if it comes with the new units now.
As a system, it's pretty limited. You can surf and send e-mails, look at jpegs and mpegs, and, if you own a printer, print.
On the downside, you can't read doc or pdf or view avi and other video formats. Plus, you can't save documents or pictures (outside of cutting & pasting and putting them in an e-mail and then saving it). And it can't downlod programs.
Also, there are no scanners for it (even though they've been promising one since it was 1st released). Maybe with Mirosoft now behind it...
OTOH, even with all it's faults, it's ridiculously easy to use and it can't catch viruses. Plus, since the tv is your monitor you can video tape things right off your screen.
And it's a fraction of the cost of a computer.
