Fame, more of a curse than a blessing.

People need to just leave the thing alone.
Really, the way we humans tend to gawk and point at stuff makes us look totally ignorant.
Look into a monkey pen at the zoo sometime. The way those monkeys are pointing and staring back at the crowd should look familiar. :p

Take a look at silver, gold and gemstones. All currency is pretty much based on the value of these sorts of things. Why are they valuable?
They're shiny! Ooh shiny! We've just joined crows on the evolutionary scale!

I do believe in leaving the whale alone.

As for gold, I think one of the reasons for its value was its traditional scarcity. That which is rare is generally valued.

Fame is often a mixed blessing. As I understand from a friend who has meet a few celebrities in her work, celebrities value their private time very highly.

Maybe the whale story might get people to remember that there is more to this world than just homo sapiens.
