(OT) what system?

Really not to OT but it's not about d20. I was wondering what system you would use when running a comedy campaign? d20 (D&D) just doesn't seem to cut it. If you do think d20 would work please explain why. Or if you go with another system please explain the reasoning behind that choice as well. Thanks for your help in advance!!

It can work with d20, but you'd probably need to reconsider what Skills, Feats and Classes would be included in the game, opting for ones that would provide the comedic content you're after.

Outside of d20, I'd recommend Paranoia, mostly because many of the rules-functions were aimed at a bizarre mix of irony, slap-stick and sarcasm. A few others are out there that I've heard of, but not having actually played them, I'd rather not recommend.

Of course, a lot depends on what form of comedy you're looking to add.

"Tales from the Floating Vagabond"

"Paranoia"

But those are pretty specific...for generic comedy..hmm...

Fudge or Hero (depending on what end of the rules spectrum you wanted to end up on).

Does anybody know if there's sample material out on the Net for any of these games? I've never seen Paranoia, for example.

Sorry, that's my entire contribution. I'd suggest my unreleased homebrew system just to see how it runs, but the obvious problem is that it's unreleased. (Maybe by the end of the week...)

Fudge, mentioned earlier, is freely available on the web. Grey Ghost publishes it. It's not a bad system, I'm currently in the process of working up a FUDGE-based game for a Steampunk-Anime campaign for my group.

GURPS might suit for comedy too. Take a look at GURPS: Discworld for ideas.
