[OT] Which branch of the military should I go into?

No problems there Paladin with the Barrack Hoes: I'm 19 years old and basically sterile. I shoot blanks so ya know what? If they were to ever say it was my kid, they'd be so full of it.

What other cult besides the Military lets you be the first kid on your block with a confirmed kill?

And I haven't just decided because Toni tore my heart out to go into the military. I've been thinking about it for awhile. But now I've decided to go balls out into this.

My eyesight is too bad to be a pilot, methinks. I wear thick glasses.

And the idea of marriage at my age makes me sick.

Well it really depends if you want to do a support role or combat oriented role. I was a computer tech in the
Air Force at Cheyenne mountain AFB in Colorado springs, Co. I worked 1/2 mile underground in a mountain fixing the computers that Monitored the Early warning system as well as Space Command. I loved the Air force and support it fully. The guard is a good way to go if you dont want to fully commit for a long time, but If I were to choose again it would still be Air force. The only reason I'm not still in it is that I was in right when Clinton started to Try to cut the military and I was sort of forced out. My dad was AF For 23 years and he loved it as well. I guess it comes down to follow your heart. Good luck in whatever you decide! And if you decide to join the military I wish to thank you up front for you service to the Greatest country in the world! No offense meant to those of other nations:)..

Having been in the Army and dealt with all of the other armed forces I can tell the best is definitely the Air Force. You can actually get training in there that you can use when you get out. Plus, you'll have a lot less bullsh*t to deal with than the other armed forces. The physical training test consists of riding a stationary bike without dying. You get to eat real food too! We stayed overnight at an Air Force base and we got total culture shock about how much more "civilian" the Air Force was. Plus, chicks dig pilots.

Then again, your odds of ending up a pilot are slim to none :)

Of course, there's nothing preventing you from SAYING you're a pilot to pick up chicks. Just make sure you don't do it within earshot of any flyboys.

Military

It is all a matter of perspective. What do you want to get out of joining. If you want to travel and see the world then go Navy or Army. If you want to not have to make any decisions join the marines. If you want a half-way decent off base then I would recomend the Air Force. I spent 8 years in the Army and traveled to Korea and Sinai Egypt and fought in Desert Storm. It is all a matter of what you want to do. The Army has the best guarantees on what you can choose to go into as far as I was able to tell but that was 14 years ago. Best suggestion from me is to check all of them out and see what they offer based on your ASVAB score.

As a proud veteran of the Army. I would whole heartedly recommend the Air Force. I was in air defense and stationed on Airbases. The job options in the Air Force will offer you more opportunities than any other branch. You also have the second best opportunity to travel the world (Navy is the best, but I can't immagine ship life).

I can't believe people are so self centered as to think you are selling yourself by enlisting in the armed services. You really should be ashamed. To be part of something larger than yourself, where your personal needs are not the highest priority can be empowering and uplifting in ways you can obviously not comprehend. I not only helped protect the lives and freedoms of others, throught Desert Storm, but traveled all over Europe while stationed in Germany. I was able to meet people from all walks of life and find commonalities to bond. I am a much richer person for the experience and for you to break it down to selling myself to others whims is not only shortsighted and self centered, but it is disrespectful to countless people.

On a different note, at 17 I was not ready for college and my parents could not afford to pay for any of my schooling. I needed time for myself and the military gave that to me and a boat load of cash for college. Again my vote is for the Air Force or Army. Just remember to study for the placement tests because the better you do, the more choices you have for bonuses, job opportunities and choices for yout first station. I did very well on my tests and took a job any bone head could do because I got to choose where I wanted to be stationed. I chose Germany.

Well Dad is cool, he's not pushing for me to go Marines.

I'm definitely thinking of National Guard, which one had this unofficial saying(or something close?): Travel the world, meet interesting people, and kill them all?

Or is that just a joke somebody made about the military

Well, what I'd really like to do after I get out is one of two fields(I'm not very focused right now): Either Writing, or, and people laugh sometimes because I'm so much smaller than the average ones you see, Personal Security/Bodyguard.

after the military

If you really want to be a body guard then I would recomend first the Marines then the Army, but focuse on going into one of the combat arms like infantry (which I was for 8 years) or try for one of the elits(sp) like Ranger or forced recon something where you can learn hand to hand and a variety of weapons.

Edit; commen misconceptions of Bodyguard are they must be huge and very strong. This is not the case. A body guard must be smart and be able to stay calm in an hard situation. Strength is secondary to remaining calm and collected and being able to understand what is going on around you.

If you feel the marines are too intense, then you will want to think twice, no twenty times before thinking special forces. A lot of head games and intensity in those programs. You don't make it through those if you are only in it half heartedly.
