[OT] WO - Opening Ceremonys

Well that was Awesome and Amazing for the most part, I really liked the part with the Native American Nations and the part with the pioneers.

Did they ever say the number of US athletes competing?
Nope, I looked a the offical site but there is just a list, so many I wasn't going to count.

I'm watching, even though Bob Costas is being such a rear end.

What a horrible horrible commentary job he's doing. Appalling.
Someone needed to feed all the damned commentators a big bowl of shut the hell up!
My god man, It's like going to a Broadway musical and having rose parade commentators yapping away the whole time.
Damn them!

I haven't noticed anything noteably bad.

My problem with Costas is two fold:

1) He never shuts up. Ever. He even talks over whoever is with him. He talked over Katie Couric several times and had to say, "Excuse me." Katie could barely get in a word edgewise and when she did, the ass would just repeat what she just said.

2) He makes insulting comments about the other countries. "Their costumes are always outlandish." (Paraphrase of what he said about Korea, Mongolia, and a couple of other countries). Calling (or even mentioning) that Pres. Bush called Iran part of the "Axis of Evil" during the olympics was just plain tacky. The olympics is about bringing countries together in peace and putting aside their differences for healthy competition. Not for spouting off some crap about other countries that you don't like. It really goes against the spirit of the olympics.

My wife and I were totally amazed that he didn't say something off color about the Native Americans, their costumes, customs, and/or language. Someone must have unplugged his mike.

Other than that, the opening ceremonies were very cool.
