South Africa v West Indies - should be a good match to kick off the 2003 cricket world cup. Any tips? I think it will be South Africa fairly easily.

West Indies To Win

Yeah, not that I like 'em or anything, and India to win the World Cup... but I'm supporting Oz of course.

India. Interesting choice. I'm still backing the Aussies, who will probably end up in the finals with New Zealand or Pakistan.

My two moments of tipping fame were when I backed Pakistan to win the 1991 World Cup and Jeune to win the Melbourne Cup a few years ago... And you know what? I couldn't bet on either of them because I was too young or too busy with work!!! Grrr.

Yeah, but I reckon India because they have Sachin Tendulkar. He's a good batsman but I think it's more to do with leadership... Oz had Steve Waugh last time round and Pakistan had Imran Khan in 1991. I don't think the Windies believe in Brian Lara anymore.

So, that's my several cents' worth.

Fair points. i think the problem India will have is that the conditions and pitches over there don't really suit them, but they do suit us, New Zealand, South Africa and the West Indies.

I'm just amused at someone picking India in this thread. I'm Indian and I'd never bet on them. Although besides Pakistan they're probably the team most capable of incredibly good or bad play, so anything's possible. Here's looking at India beating Australia and losing to Namibia :D

:D

West Indies 7/2 and in big trouble.

Well, I was wrong. Scores:

West Indies 278/5 (50 overs)
Lara 116, Powell 40, Ntini 37/2

defeated

South Africa 275/9 (49 overs)
Kirsten 69, Klusenar 57, Drakes 33/2

by 3 runs.

Player of the Match: Bryan Lara.

Todays matches: Sri Lanka v New Zealand and Zimbabwe v Namibia. My tips: New Zealand and Zimbabwe.
