wow...! I was watching the start of the match last night and would never have guessed the West Indies could have scored anything in excess of 200 given the poor start they had...

I know Brian Lara hasn't played much cricket lately but just before I passed out (in the air conditioned lounge room tro escape the heat) he was starting to play some magnificient shots...

my pick would have been a win by South Africa, so this is unexpected... but an early indication that we could be in for an excellent World Cup...

who's going to win it...? way too early to tell... but I'm still going to support my beloved Aussies...!!!

"WARNEY... WARNEY... WARNEY..."

Yay, I got my first tip right. For the next match, I'll go with EternalKnight and say NZ will win it. My heart really wants to say Namibia will cause an upset but I think Zimbabwe will win.

And yeah I'm still saying India... And Canada will be the dark horse. I reckon they'll surprise some people.

Yeah when I saw the Windies were about 45/2 after 20 I couldn't see them getting past 175...

I still think India aren't going to like the conditions. Same goes for Sri Lanka.

As for Canada... they should beat Kenya and possibly Bangladesh... given that these are their first two games (and the fact that a South Australian is in their side) who knows what could happen?

Latest two match results:

Sri Lanka 272/7 (50 overs)
Jayasuria 120, Tillekeratne 81*, Astle 3/34

defeated

New Zealand 225 (45.3 overs)
Styris 141, Cairns 32, Arnold 3/47

by 47 runs. Player of the match: Jayasuria

Zimbabwe 340/2 (50 overs)
Wishart 172*, G.Flower 78*, Burger 1/23

defeated

Namibia 104/5 (25.1 overs)
Keulder 27, Burger 26, Whittal 2/20

by 86 runs in a rain-delayed match. Player of the match: Wishart.

Which means I'm 1 from 3. Todays matches: Australia v Pakistan, and Bangladesh v Canada. My tips: Australia and Bangladesh.

Maybe you guys can help me with a cricket question, since it's come up: doesn't the second team get to bat until all their men are out or until they score more runs, which ever comes first?

So in the rain-shortened match between Zimbabwe and Namibia, how come Namibia didn't get to finish? Is there a time component to these matches that I'm forgetting?

Correct, but see below. (and it is also until their 50 overs is up).

There is a time limit, as the matches can only be played over one day. For every 3 or 4 minutes of game time lost due to rain, the match is shortened by 1 over. Using a complicated (and some would say silly) method, the score that the team batting second needs to make to win is also revised. That is still a bit confusing, but I hope it helps.

Hmmm... Australia to beat Pakistan, Canada to beat Bangladesh (I'm stupid to say that considering Bangladesh play India and Paki regularly, it's sort of like two 1st level halfling commoners going up against each other isn't it).
