Other Miniatures?

Hey,

So, my group uses various minis from different sources, (WotC, Games Workshop, Reaper Minis) but aside from those three are there any other good mini companies for fantasy gaming? We prefer ones that we can paint ourselves.

There are many, but it depends what you're looking for. You've named the three biggest and most comprehensive companies. There are a lot of smaller companies out there with high quality products, but its hard to know where to send you without knowing what you're looking for. A lot of the companies only have like 30 or 40 miniatures, tops.

Anima Tactics has some decent fantasy miniatures. They've got a few very high quality sculptors on staff.

Tale of War has some nice sculpts.

Confrontation is a dead product line, but it had a lot of good miniatures with a rather distinctive style.

Confrontation dead ? Oh my ...

Well, freebooter is good, if you don't mind glueing the various parts.
Crocodile games is nice too.
Fenryll, if you can find them, but they are plastic.

Confrontation decided that prepainted plastic miniatures were the market of the future, so they rewrote their rules and released an entirely new game. The new game is at a larger scale of battle, where you move whole units instead of individual figures. So technically Confrontation isn't "dead," but it feels that way to miniature painters like me.

Plenty of small toys can be repainted. Never pass by a Dollar store or garage sale.

Fantasy Flight games have a lot of great plastic monster minis in Descent: Journeys into the Dark. The Character minis are kinda small though.

Grim Reaper Castings [TMP] Grim Reaper Casting has some ok monster minis. Definitely a Wheat and Chaff situation though.

Mega Miniatures

Mega Miniatures has some packs of minis that give good quantity for a low price as long as you don't mind painting. You might want to grab their pdf catalog pages to use as painting guides, too.
