Other than hybrid, are there any way to make an axe into Wizard implement?

One of my friend is trying to make a dwarf wizard/blood mage which uses battlecrazed weapon (axe or heavy blade) as an implement. He is meant to be an orb wizard who wields a weapon in one hand and an orb in another hand.

Of course, he can take Arcane Imprlement Proficiency (Swordmage) to make heavy blades into his wizard implement. But other than some hybrid build (Rune Priest?), are there any way to make an axe a wizard implement?

Have him use a Frost Fury weapon from AV2 instead. The Battlecrazed weapon only deals extra damage when you hit, so it would not be added to secondary damage from zones, walls, etc. The Frost Fury weapon's extra damage applies to everything.

The feat you're after is "Arcane Implement Proficiency" from Arcane Power. It allows you to become proficient in any implement that any arcane class can use for the cost of 1 feat. That includes wands, staves, orbs, tomes, rods, light blades, heavy blades, and a few things I probably can't think of.

The easiest way as a DM is to just allowe the player to use an axe as an implement.

IF you want to make it harder than you can create a feat that allows wizards to use axes as implements.

OR you can create a magic item with the property: Acts as a wizards implement.

If you want to get really creative you could create a whole new wizard implement style. Like the orb/staff/wand with it's own shtick.

That's how I would do it.

Wizards can already get swords a implements "legally". If you're the DM, just handwave it and let him have his axe for a feat.

After all, that's why we're playing the game with a DM in the first place. It's your job to tweak the game in a way that everybody has fun.
