Well, granted I haven't seen all of his work yet, but I
haven't seen a bad PJ movie yet.

As far as I'm concerned, any film that reduces a bad guy to a set of squirming intestines and still makes him a threat counts as brilliant.

I wouldn't ever show Dead Alive in my home, but I saw it for the first time this past October when some friends and I caught it at a theatre pub downtown.

Freaking hilarious. The ridiculously over the top gore. The backlit sidekicking pastor ("This calls for divine intervention..."). The zombie baby, the uncle hacking up a pile of zombies in accelerated speed, the gooey (no pun intended) love story, the aforementioned intestines. And of course: The Lawnmower. Not to mention some photographic tricks that Jackson reuses in LOTR.

All on a shoestring budget. Definitely not everyone's cup of tea, but pretty ingenius nonetheless.

EDIT: And the audience loved every minute of it. The guys would cheer, the girls would scream in disgust, then everyone would laugh. It was awesome.

If you're not too fond of Peter Jackson's other works, you've got to check out Forgotten Silver. It's the most brilliant "mockumentary" since Spinal Tap.

I didn't care for Meet The Feebles but Dead Alive (also known as Brain Dead) and Heavenly Creatures are two brilliant movies. Love them both, watch them regularly. The Frighteners I didn't think was very good, but those other two -- hoo boy.

That said, I was certainly startled to hear he'd been given $300 million dollars to make three films. That was a HUGE risk by New Line and I'm very pleased it has paid off so well for them.

RotK has already made $300 million in the US. Unbelievable.

I gotta admit, when I first heard his name, I responded with a "wha...? who...? huh...?"

But nowadays, he's name cannot be far when you speak of the LOTR film, be it praise or criticism (but mostly praise). This may be the turning point of his filmmaking and directing career. Then again, it could be a one-hit wonder.

I'm certain it happened for every directors out there, even Steven Spielberg, once known to direct B-movies as well as Goonies.

I guess now that when you have a hit film that won a lot of accolade as well as a few awards, the pressure is on to top it off with an equally successful new film project. Such an expectation from the public is automatic.

I quite liked those low-budget zombie/martian movies, but my favourite is Heavenly Creatures, disturbing but lovely movie...

I must be alone in having Meet the Feebles as my favorite. As my friends and I watched it, I could SEE the sanity draining from them, my maniacal laughter drowned out by their "Dear Gods!" 's, and the "Oh Lord, he didn't...!" 's. I knew my Dark Lords wre pleased this had been inflicted upon humanity.
