Our belated honeymoon (we got married last year) was booked for New Orleans this coming weekend :(. We got our rooms and such through Priceline, so we're hosed since we won't be able to get our money back. I'm not having a good day :( :(.

Look at the bright side: you weren't in New Orleans when the hurricane hit. It sucks to be out the money, but it could have been much worse.

If you're still in Alabama - just be thankful that you are still have electricity to post!

And, as the others said, better to not be able to go then to be stranded there.

I know... I really wanted this to be perfect, you know. I have so many magical memories of New Orleans, so many amazing places and people. It was going to be a chance to share it all with my wife (who has never been there) and it hurts that won't happen for who knows how long now. I know we're lucky that it didn't hit when we were there, and I know I am grateful that the damage overall wasn't anywhere near as bad as it could have been, but it still dashes alot of our hopes. Oh well.

spend the time at home enjoying each others' company, and be glad you didn't get there a few days ago. :)

Sorry to hear that. I have to admit that in planning for a Florida vacation next summer, I am considering, for the first time ever, getting the cancellation insurance on the trip. I have to look at the fine print and see if it covers hurricanes. With my luck it wouldn't and that would be what cancels the trip and I'd still be out the money, PLUS the cost of the insurance.

Though there are no guarantees, basically I'd advise coming here as early in the summer as you can. The most intense storms we get seem to be right at this time of year, and through September.

You could get a lot of hurricane mix for drinks and a box of brightly colored beads to throw at each other in lieu of actually being there. It's not really Nawleans, but it'll be fun to pretend!
