Our honeymoon is booked for this coming weekend in New Orleans :(

Well some good news among all the bad... Priceline gave us a refund for our trip (minus "service fee" which wasn't too bad and it'll take 2-3 weeks). I am surprised and impressed by that, their policy is pretty clear on refunds.

Bad news of course is that New Orleans is in much worse shape then I had imagined :(. I just hope that in 6 months or a year the city I love so much is doing well.

That's good news. I was pretty certain that you wee going to be out the money.

As for New Orleans, it sounds like the city will be flooded for at least another month. It'll be another couple weeks at least before they get pumps set up to pump the water out to a point that the original pumps will be able to pump the rest of the water out. Only then will the cleam up start. My thought and prayers are with everyone in Louisiana and Mississippi that are dealing with the loss of homes and loved ones.

I got a phone call from a lady who misdialed her son's phone number last night. She said he's a cop in New Orleans and it's like a Mad Max movie with all the looting that's going on.

That's good. Goes to show they are pretty decent in the wake of a tragedy...

Ok, I know it's tragic in NO but the thread joke would have been "honeymoon in New Orleans? Better bring a swimsuit."

Yeah, ok, sorry.

A lot of my musician friends live there (they all escaped). One guy was in law school and is having to reapply to different law schools. He's really worried that his instruments (synthesizers) are going to get looted or damaged, although their apartment was on the 2nd floor of a barely flooded area.

any company that will screw you out of money because of natural disasters is going to look really bad. some smarter companies had to bite the bullet on this one or lose a lot of current and potential customers.

Glad to hear Priceline refunded most of the money. Good for them and for you, although it is still too bad you miss out on the special time together there.

Yeah, for us that's the biggest loss, the money was a minor issue. My wife has never been to New Orleans and it's something I really wanted to share with her.

To add to the comedy of the situation:
I was making alternate plans to go somewhere else to go for the weekend and the idea of the Alpine Helena in Georgia came up (http://www.helenga.org/). And in typical fashion, I turn on CNN to see nothing but Alpine Helena itself... demolished by tornado's caused by the hurricane. People at work are beginning to think I'm cursed :p.

Our belated honeymoon (we got married last year) was booked for New Orleans this coming weekend :(. We got our rooms and such through Priceline, so we're hosed since we won't be able to get our money back. I'm not having a good day :( :(.
Well, there's always Hawaii.
