Our wild mage is killing me!

using mass unseen servant to do roads? genus.
The Warlock in our party, when stranded on the dread isle could only do paths - but was researching a blight essence for his Eldrich Blast - one that would do more damage/avoid hardness on plants - but was burned to a crisp before he succeeded.

Oh and I remember a flock of psionic penguins encounter written up here long ago - they lived on a sandy tropical beach, and If I remember correctly summoned astral constructs.
As much as I wanted too I never got around to working in in my game, but it sounds like it would fit well with yours.

Hey at least it's not 2e :D :p

As a DM the most frustrating experience of my 2e years was the Wild Mage. It was my second cousin Ernie playing and he had a talent for hitting the most disruptive surges possible. Eventually it got so bad he retired the character in favor of a conventional wizard.

I have to admit, he's used Mass Unseen Servant very well. He even has a Handy Haversack filled with shovels, axes, spades, and bricks. Each time they go over their trails, he has his servants add something - so that slowly, the roads that connect the southern villages are becoming paved.

That is actually pretty cool.

As for the psionic penguins... if they ever camp on the coast, with the igloo, I might just start up an encounter. Could be weird and interesting.

See, in 2e, *I* was the one who played a wild mage, so I think my current "problem" is just karma coming back to haunt me.

I liked the 2e wild mage. We had a lot of fun with it, but I never really thought about the mentality of the class in the game. It really does seem to encourage a small amount of goofiness (as our mage took delight in, upon releasing 600 butterflies in a fight: "Go on, ruin the ECOSYSTEM! Bwa ha ha ha!" while he's trying to avoid the attacks of a tyrannosaur)

Yes. This is almost certainly a case of your psychotic half-slaad wild turkeys coming home to roost.

My only concern would be if the other players aren't into the goofyness... but I think you can actually get some good tactics out of the igloos (as mildly inefficient battlefield control if nothing else).

Please do keep us updated with ridiculous exploits! :)

I love doing the "weird sorcerer selection" thingy!

I played a sorc whose favorite spell was mount. Need a cover bonus to AC? Mount! Need to send something down the hall to trigger the traps? Mount! Need to move quick? Mount! Need to drop something heavy down a hole onto an enemy? Mount!

Great stuff. :p

We're around 10th level right now. And we're on the STAP adventure after "here there be monsters", although I can't recall it's name right now.

Jester - we used to use Summon Monster for that, although the casting time made it difficult. I remember being in a chase scene on dog sleds, and the caster in the group cast Summon Monster in front of the enemy sled.

That was fun.

Nifft - I will bet money that the caster doesn't do that. As a matter of principle, really - I think he gets a kick out of being a potential liability to the group. He has his benefits, but he has his drawbacks, too, and he likes playing that side of his character up.

You've found my spiritual twin!

In 30 years of gaming (including a 2Ed Wild Mage or two), I've never played a spellcaster with a full suite of the "powerhouse spells"- heck, of the ones that people constantly complain about being overused, I've only ever used Lightning Bolt. No Sleep or Magic Missiles for me!

I always like creative spellcasting, as a DM or a player.

I'll have to remember that Mass Unseen Servants thing...genius!

Oh, oh, oh! 2E Wild Mage story time!

Remember the Great Hall in the Steading of the Hill Giant Chief? Lots of hill giants, ogres, a cloud giant, the chief, his wife and his pet cave bear? Wild Mage: Fireball. Whoops, it balloons out to 3x normal size and damage! Everyone, giants, PCs, all dead! :D

And I'll echo the Mass Unseen Servant love, very cool.
