D&D 5E Out of the Abyss OOC

I'm quite eager for one, too. I think a static 5% chance of getting a surge is not high enough odds. I'd like to see the percent chance of hitting a surge be cumulative with each casting, until at last the wild magic bursts through. I've seen progression charts on this site for homebrewing the frequency of a surge. Does this interest you?

We can give this a try, it may become too much at higher levels. The simplest cumulative fix would be for the first spell since a wild surge to have a 1 in 20, the second spell to have a 2 in 20 chance, and so on until the 20th spell is certain to cause a wild surge (at which point the counter resets). I think I can track the number of spells cast. Was that what you were thinking? Alternatively we could say that cantrips also cause a check for surges, although at the moment I seem to be regularly using create bonfire to create a cooking fire & do we really want to risk setting off a fireball then? :)

I'm at the department store with my four daughters, dress shopping, so off the top of my head:

HELL YEAH THE SURGE WILL BE OVER-THE-TOP VISIBLE.

I mean, really, everyone here lives cinema. There's no way I'd pass up an opportunity to add to that.

Picking up the U-Haul truck now. Will sirens the night loading it, sign papers in the morning, and then unload. Internet should be on at the new house Tuesday morning. I'll check in by cell, but no elaborate posts until Tuesday at the earliest. See you then!

Half of me is excited for you as all get out that you're buying your first residence. The other half wonders how on earth you're going to manage all that lifting and carrying after just recently having had surgery. Moving is hard work. Take care, IG. I know you guys are stoked to be moving in. I hope it goes smoothly, and that you enjoy the new place.

I'm still thinking on the issue of upping the frequency of checks on the Wild Magic Surge table. I haven't made up my mind.

I don't think there would be anything visible, otherwise it might screw up subtle spells like Mage hand and invisibility.
Same here. I'm mulling it over. I think my preference is to make the effect of the surge visible, but I want to do more background reading before committing one way or the other.
