My recollection was that he had a verbal fluency due to [insert gobbledygook] meld with mushroom people/drow right after being captured when his own racial link was broken, but no ability to read/write.

(my opinion only)

1. You are heavily invested in attack cantrips already (you have 3). A fourth seems to me excessive. (Perhaps you would prefer Fire Bolt to one of the ones you already have?)

2. Many solid uses. Your description seems most excited about this.

3. 120' is pretty far, and I don't think the range is short. You'd find tactical uses for this but it seems less immediately useful.

I'd plunk for Mending, but it's entirely your call.

Thanks for advice! Ok, I'm swayed on Fire Bolt - maybe Kamael is effectively using the Fire Bolt chassis to make Scorching Rays but hasn't yet realised he can use that chassis as an independent spell..

I've decided to go for Message over Mending though Since you don't have to be able to see the target, and stealth is quite important in the Underdark, I think it will get a bit more use

I always hesitate to weigh in on character choices when I'm DMing because I don't want to appear to be exerting undue influence, but I, too, think message is both a flavorful and useful choice of cantrip.

Also, [MENTION=23298]industrygothica[/MENTION], you're not holding us up. It's been an incredibly hectic week for me, and I know one of our number has a major work thing today, and another of us is traveling through the weekend. My work week next week is similarly busy, but sweet merciful Jesus, the week after (so, the week of March 14-18) I have NO HEARINGS AT ALL. Judge is on spring break. And so will have more time to devote to the game.

I think I'm OK now. I finally found my medication that I had packed up, and after 3 or 4 days without, I'm having to get used to the side effect again. At least I hope that's all it was.
