Anyone have the 411 on this series? One of the video stores is going out of business with a 30% off sale so the $90 set is now $63 which is pretty good for the whole series.

I'd completely forgotten about that site.

I used to go there all the time about a year, two years ago.

I'm glad to see that it's still around. That dude is a real fan and in many ways, reminds me of the En World community for anime.

Outlaw Star is a sci-fi action anime. There's no grand, meaninful moral to the series, but it's a fun romp through the stars with the occasional question of "What's my life for, anyway?"

The premise is that two people run a small odd-jobs shop on a backwater planet. Gene Starwind is a twenty-something with no idea what he's doing with his life: sometimes repairman, sometimes bounty hunter, always expecting some 'big money' job to fall into his lap. Jim Hawking is his twelve-year old partner in the buisness, and Jim is clearly the more mature of the two. The boy is always on the lookout for jobs they can do, managing the finances, and has a great mind for technology.

Things get a lot more interesting for them when a bodyguard job goes wrong, leaving them afoul of space pirates. They become tangled up with an outlaw named "Hot Ice" Hilde, and her cargo: a female android named Melfina. In short order it becomes clear that everyone is searching for a legendary place called "The Galactic Ley Line," and now Gene & Jim are caught up in the whole mess.

The series is mostly light-hearted, with plenty of jokes around. Plus, Gene is a bit of a letch.

However, there are some good emotional moments, plus great action and a few brushes with very insane criminals. In addition, the show blends sci-fi with some light magic, and a whole lot of gunfighting. There is some language, blood and brief partial nudity, which is why it was edited down for it's airing on Cartoon Network (including the removal of one whole episode that was basically nothing but fanservice :D ).

Overall, I'd say it's worth it. The animation quality is very good, the English voice acting is excellent, and it's just a fun show to watch.
