Money is difficult to come by, most folks have to work for it (some very hard). :)

Well, yeah. But these are D&D books. It's not like it's bread or milk. If you can afford a computer connection there's a metric ton of free stuff out there.

i don't want to pay more for something then i feel it is worth.

And I don't think this thread is directed at you. You don't have "outrage" :) .

I mean I haven't seen you post, "OMG! Ptlous ate my dog! I will never buy another product from Malhavoc again." followed by "OMFG! I got another dog and GoO Game of Thrones pre-release PDF ate it! SoB! I will never buy another product from them again!"

I know for example, that you buy many products and are often, like many people, on the "annoyed" side of things as prices escalate a bit but unless I'm wrong, your outrage isn't outrage.

Sometimes I want the product, but for less than what they are charging. Sometimes I generally feel that the product is overpriced. Sometimes I'd like the product in a different format.

But those times, I don't get excited. I just don't buy the product. I don't feel the need to get angry and start posting that Company is fleecing me. Since I haven't bought the product, they aren't.

This is pretty much where I'm at. There have been many game books I havent' bought because I know my utility of them will be low and my storeage space is getting pretty hectic.

I don't blame the publishers though. I don't leap atop the flag pole screaming that the game company in question, heck, I just saw someone ripping on Troll Lords for their new Gygax adventure, and cry that the company is out to ruin me and I in return will mock them on the internet till they change their ways.

I'm with you. If I'm not going to buy the product, I'll pass. Perhaps I'll get it latter. Perhaps I'll see it on E-bay. Perhaps amazon, usually at 30+% off, will have it in stock. The outrage is false in about 99.999% of the cases, save perhaps where someone accidentally dropped Ptlous on his dog at which point there is reason for real concern.

For me, it's return on investment.

I don't expect to use 100% of the material presented in most of the books I buy, but I do expect enough useful content to justify my expenditure. There are a couple of books I've bought that are right on the line, and I tend to see them as "expensive" because I get so little use out of them. Then there are many books that have gone back on the game-store shelf because the few good bits are in a matrix of dreck such that I can't justify the cost to myself.

The more useful bits, the greater the return on investment, the better the value of the book.

Wow. An open invitation to rant.

And not one.

Wacky.

Perhaps at some point these people know that they are doing just that, ranting, and that they really have no justification for it?

Or perhaps my cynicism is just too powerful?

normally i don't get outraged. but i did when WotC tried to force Polyhedron on me at the expense of Dungeon. i blew a fuse and ranted, and ranted, and ranted... i even called them a few choice names. :o

I have enough in my real life to stress me out, so I'm sure as hell not going to rant about how the newest D20 book is overpriced.

I guess I just don't worry that much about how I spend my entertainment (i.e gaming dollar). I don't complain if I went and saw a movie that sucks, I don't complain if a book I buy is less then perfect. In the end, it's up to me how well I research the potential purchase, prior to buying.

I would have loved to buy the Limited Game of Thrones book. I just couldn't justify the expense at the time.
