Overcoming Reach Disadvantage?

I am having a rough time remembering if there is a way to gain the ability to threaten adjacent squares with a reach (non-chain) weapon, and I dont have books handy. Is there such a feat or ability? Or is my brain playing tricks on me?
Thanks!

There is a feat, but I can't remember the name of it right now. Other than that, having something like a spiked gauntlet and a reach weapon means you can threaten the squares adjacent to you as well.

Hmm... I need to find the feat. By design the build needs to use the Glaive. It will have natural weapons for threatening adjacent squares, but when wielding the glaive, you cant Strike the adjacent squares except with the secondary natural weapon.

I've tried to look for it, but can't seem to find it. I did, however, find a 3e feat that does this also called Close Quarter's Fighting from Avalanche's Twilight of Atlantis. Maybe somebody else has something for 3.5e.

I don't believe there is a published ability or feat. We ended up making one called "Crush Skull of Enemy With Butt End of Spear" (a feat) that allows you to use the butt end of spear as a light mace. It's similar to spiked armor/gauntlet use (or quickdraw, for that matter).

RAW, though, you're going to want to go with the spiked gauntlet.

There was a feat in Dragon, somewhat recently. The issue had a section on polearms (which, I believe, was written by one of ENWorld's own - Mouseferatu, maybe?).

One of the feats there was called "Choke Up," I believe, and it allowed you to threaten adjacent squares with a reach weapon.

Anyone got an Issue # on that?

{edit} Dragon #331 - Shorten Grip (Still takes a -2 penalty on attack and can't be used with Awl Pike.)

You need a feat to choke up? :\
To overcome the existing rule and do so in the middle of combat, apparently you do. (And it begs the question, do you still threaten squares at the weapons normal reach when you're choking up?)

I think I read over on Andy Collins site that he has a house rule where characters can still attack adjacent squares with a reach weapon (such as a spear), but at a -4 penalty. I'm using it in my own campaign, and the feat could still function to remove the -4 penalty (similar to Precise Shot.)
