D&D (2024) Overthinking Long Rest in 2024

I mostly lurk but thought I'd chime in since I'm as much a coffee nerd (snob) as I am a D&D nerd.

I highly recommend for anyone who likes coffee to find a 3rd or 4th wave coffee shop in your town and give something different a try. You'll know you're in that kind of shop if the bags of beans are mostly light roasts (other than espressos) and have flavour/tasting notes like on a bottle of wine.

Of course, careful how much coffee you drink, it might disrupt your next long rest.

You sleep for at least 6 hours.. After you finish a Long Rest, you must wait at least 16 hours before starting another one.

I had a late night, didn’t get to sleep until 2am. Slept 6 hours, waking at 8am. For the rest of my life, I guess can’t get a Long Rest unless I go sleep after midnight.. unless I stay awake (or stay in bed) all night and the following day.

Think I’ll open a 24 hour “Potions of Alertness” store in Waterdeep (aka cafe). I can see a business opportunity under the new regime.
Joke aside, by the rules, you will be able to have long rests before midnight again. Just not tomorrow.

So in D&D, if you go to bed too late, your next night might not finish a long rest if you have to get up early. You’ll have the benefit of a short rest, but not a long one.

In short in D&D, if you go to bed too late one night, or if you’re interrupted during rest and sleep-in the next day, getting back into your normal cycle will cost you an exhaustion level and empty spell slots.

Remember everyone, a regular sleep routine and a healthy breakfast is the basis of every successful wizard!

Seconded, except light roasts are the IPAs of coffee.
