Osprey has a very reasonably priced guide at like $15.00 that would be very helpful to a beginner. I have to agree with Frank though, the best information is already on the web.

Hello Bruce

I use the book: "How To Paint Citadel Miniatures" from Games Workshop
It has all I needed about painting miniatures, for just 20$.

Imho its worth the price.

This is a fairly solid starting book.

I'd avoid the Darkstone Designs book. Bounces all over the place, doesn't use one miniature paint style consistantly, etc...

Reaper has been working on a book for a long time.

In terms of learning to paint, the Confrontation English forums, Reaper forums, and Privateer Press forums have some great painters that share a lot of their styles and techniques.

OK, What are some good internet sites for mini painting?

Reaper boards: corp site but it does not usually feel like it. Freindly folks, family friendly board [moreso than the minis], one sub-forum reserved for 'heated discusion' called beekeepers. Here is a link to the painting tips and advice page.

Wizards Community > D&D Miniatures > D&D Miniatures HQ > Painting & Modeling
The best part of the wotc boards.

My sig will take you to the mini section of enworld...

Once you start painting minis, terrain is the next step.
