Pathfinder 1E Paizo Annoucement!

I actually thought the 2009 release date was a misprint. In order to keep moving on this, I would've thought Paizo would've been in better shape to release the product as close on the heels of 4e as possible.

Took a gander at the Alpha doc last night. Definitely interesting. Here's hoping I get a chance to playtest!

Really, I don't see the problem some people are having. Sure, I'm pro-4E, but I fully accept that a percentage of current 3.5e players won't want to switch. This gives them an option, and Paizo the chance to keep making money. It's not like it's adding a split to the market that wasn't already coming anyway.

Personally, I want 4e. I've been playing (DMing mostly) 3e since day one and, honestly, I'm tired of it, which is why I won't be buying Pathfinder RPG. But I don't see a problem at all with anybody else who does prefer it, just like I see no problem with people who prefer HERO or GURPS. Or, for a more fitting example, I play Mutants and Masterminds, but have no problem with those who prefer Silver Age Sentinels, and I don't understand why anybody would.

From my brief skim of the rules, the only thing I don't like is, once again, no skill points -- but I'm "Getting" that I'm the only person on the planet which DID like them.

Oh, no. I rue the idea of SAGA-ized skill points.

Paizo is doing Pathfinder RPG because they can't do 4E.*

They can't do 4E because they never got the GSL.

The above we know. Now, time for a prediction:

In 1-2 years, Paizo *will* have the GSL and *will* move to 4E.

My win/win counter-prediction:

Paizo gets GSL and rules and publishes their adventure paths both for 4e and PathfinderRPG.

Folks,

The tone of this site is set by you. Yes you, each of you, personally. Every time you belittle a concern by calling it "nerdrage", each time you stoop to using the sort of language that gets caught by a filter, each time you are dismissive, or disrespectful, you make this place less than it could be. Each such act is like tossing a piece of trash on your own living room floor. You make the place a little bit uglier for everyone else and for yourself.

I would like to remind folks that we expect you to show respect for other people here, and for their opinions. It does not matter that you may find it factually inaccurate, overstated, or overly dramatic, if you choose to respond, you should do so in a way that makes the tone of the place better, rather than worse.

If Paizo's smart, they'll have a low-cost print copy of the 'Beta' rules at GenCon '08. Just something people can pick up and read on the floor, with a reminder that the final rules will be there in a year...

Same here. I love tinkering with my skill points every time I level. What skills did I use during the adventure? What skills is my character currently interested in, and thus is pursuing between-adventures training for? What skills are no longer interesting, and thus no longer pursued? What skills is it out-of-character to pursue? All that is very character-defining for me, and I love the feeling of steady progress, as a contrast to the 'jumpy' aquisition of feats.

I'm really, really going to miss that, if and when my DM goes for 4E... :(
